Born in 1965, Ambassador Sanjay Kumar Verma joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988. He
graduated from Patna University and went on to pursue a postgraduate degree in Physics from the
prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. With over 36 years of distinguished service,
Ambassador Verma has held several key diplomatic positions across the world. His early postings
included assignments at the Commission of India (now the Consulate General of India) in Hong Kong
and at Indian Embassies in China, Vietnam, and Türkiye. Following his tenure in Türkiye, he served as
Consul General of India in Milan, Italy, and later as India’s Ambassador to Sudan. In New Delhi, he took
on senior responsibilities as Joint Secretary and subsequently as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of
External Affairs. He further represented India as Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of the
Marshall Islands before his most recent role as High Commissioner to Canada. Ambassador Verma is
deeply committed to advancing areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, IT-enabled services,
people-centric service delivery, international trade promotion, and fostering foreign investments. He
continues to serve India as an esteemed member of the Indian Foreign Service.
