EBG organized an interactive session with Mr. Arvind MAYARAM, Secretary, Economic Affairs, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on Monday, 2nd September 2013 from 6:00 – 7.30 PM at the Hotel Imperial (Emily Eden). Welcome address for the session was given by Mr Raman Sidhu (EBG India Chairman) and Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr Rajiv Dhawan EBG Delhi Chapter Chairman. Mr Arvind Mayaram, a Rajasthan cadre IAS officer will play a key role in preparing the next year's Budget. The 57-year-old officer of 1978 batch IAS, was a Joint Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs between 2005-2008 when Mr. P Chidambaram was the Union Finance minister. In his earlier stay in North Block, Mr Mayaram played a key role in developing public private partnership (PPP) policy among others. Mr Mayaram's speech on Current State Economy, was followed by an impressive interactive Q&A session moderated by Mr Rajiv Dhawan which saw excellent participation from EBG members on various issues of current economy including questions from Mr. Francois Ravel, Managing Director, TOTAL PROJECTS INDIA PVT LTD; Mr.Sunand Sharma, President – ALSTOM International, India & South Asia, Chairman – ALSTOM India Limited; Mr J P Garg (EBG Telecom Sector Chairman); Mr. R S Sheshadri, TILDA RICELAND PVT LTD; Mr VikasKuthiala, FALCK INDIA; Mr. Sidharth Banerjee, BOLS KYNDAL; Mr.SandeepSelot SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC. The meeting was attended by over 80 guests which included participation from major European companies and representatives from the EU Memberstate Embassies. This meeting gave them an opportunity to interact with Mr.Mayaram and to hear first-hand views of this key policy maker on various issues effecting the Indian Economy including the investment scenario.
